Inspection & Testing

Annual Electrical Periodic Inspection

Safety Services Theatrical installations deteriorate due to a number of factors such as damage, wear, tear, corrosion, excessive electrical loading, ageing and environmental influences.
The IEE wiring regulations state that every installation requires regular inspection. Dependent on the venue, theatrical equipment should have an annual visit.
Our engineers will undertake a thorough electrical inspection which will provide a numbered NICEIC Periodic Inspection Report with observations and recommendations regarding the safety of theatrical installations, and their compliance with BS 7671:2008. If any remedial action is required to meet standards we would be happy to submit a no obligation quotation or undertake immediate minor repairs.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

The Health & Safety Executive states that 25% of all reported electrical accidents involve portable appliances.
In our opinion, when it comes to PAT testing, theatrical equipment should be treated separately from a domestic PAT testing schedule. This specialist equipment is used frequently by numerous people who 'fiddle' with it on a raised bar or rig or throw lanterns around. This means that the equipment needs a more thorough PAT test. Sometimes, as the equipment is on a rig, a domestic PAT tester will not have the working at height training and will be unable to test lanterns and cables.
Theatrical equipment would include lanterns, sound equipment, audio visual equipment and all related cables. Stage Electrics offer a cost effective range of services for your PAT testing needs. Services include:

  • De-rigging and replacing on the rig once tested (working at height risk assessments are available)
  • Supplying 'Tested On' labels and documented test results for each item
  • Full visual inspection carrying out minor repairs immediately, where possible
  • Quotations available for more comprehensive off-site remedial work (collect and return service)

Rigging Inspection and Load Testing

Safety ServicesIf your installation includes fixed bars, hempsets, manual or electric winches, counterweight or chain and hoist systems it will be covered by The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and potentially LOLER (The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations), and as such a regular inspection will be required.
Our rigging inspectors will thoroughly examine all mechanical aspects of your installation, assess safe working loads and, via a detailed report, highlight any remedial actions necessary.
If, after a rigging inspection, further investigation is required, our inspectors can provide load testing services. This can be a regular requirement for your insurance company or local authority.
