JR Event Services are presenting this course on behalf of Stage Electrics and on successful completion the delegates will receive a PSA Safety Alliance Passport (valid for three years).
Course objectives:
- To provide information and training relevant to Live Events in respect of concerns for health, safety and the environment, to support the continued improvement of such standards throughout the sector.
- To understand the implications for cost, business, job security and risk of injury if concerns for the environment and health and safety are not properly considered.
Course content:
On completion of the course delegates will have the knowledge to:
- Demonstrate their understanding of the subjects by successfully completing each module assessment paper
- Appreciate how they personally can influence good standards within health, safety and the environment
- Understand the value of risk assessment and have the knowledge to recognise when change to a generic assessment is required
- Understand the common hazards associated with working in the Live Events sector
Module 1 - Organising for Safety
On completion of Module 1 candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the legal
responsibilities of employers and employees, understand the role of the Enforcing Authorities and the nature
and practice of risk assessment in the workplace:
- Overview of health and safety law
- Responsibilities of employers/employees
- Risk Assessment
- Consultation on health and safety matters
- Powers of the Enforcing Authorities
Module 2 - The Workplace
On completion of Module 2 candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of what makes a safe
place of work and specific hazards which present risk in the workplace:
- Principle of a safe place of work
- Safe behaviour
- Safe Access and exits
- Temperature, lighting, housekeeping,welfare
- Slips and trips
- Display screen equipment
- Environmental hazards
- Reporting failures and defects
- Safe work at heights
Module 3 - Tools, Plant and Machinery
On completion of Module 3 candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the hazards
presented by both powered and none powered work equipment in the workplace, forms of energy and
associated hazards and risks faced with the use of workplace transport:
- Work equipment
- Machinery
- Electricity
- Workplace transport
Module 4 - Health
On completion of Module 4 candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of risks and associated
control measures presented by substances hazardous to health, together with other ill health risks from
workplace activities, giving rise to musculoskeletal problems and the effects of noise and stress:
- Noise
- Controlling harmful substances
- Specific health hazards - hazardous materials
- Personal protective equipment
- Health surveillance/monitoring
- Manual handling
- Musculoskeletel disorders
- Stress
Module 5 - Procedures
On completion of Module 5 candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the need for a
permit- to-work, the need to know local emergency procedures and first aid arrangements:
- Safe systems of work including permits
- Emergency procedures
- Fire safety
- Reporting accidents and incidents
- First aid
Module 6 - The Environment
On completion of Module 6 candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the current
environmental requirements, waste control hierarchies and emergency planning in the event of problems
together with the requirements for safe storage and disposal:
Introduction
- Key legislation
- Responsibilities of employers and employees
Environmental concerns in the workplace
- Causes of on/offsite pollution
- Pollution prevention
Emergencies
- Planning
- Procedures
Waste
Management, segregation and minimization
Safe and secure storage
What do you need to bring?
If the training is taking place in our Bristol branch we have a canteen where you are able to buy food. Any other venue, including our branch in London, you will need to provide your own lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided throughout the day.
Health & Fitness Statement
If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension, you must bring this to our attention. This need not preclude you from coming to our training provided your employer/the trainer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures to take account of any difficulties you may have.
