Course objectives:
- To increase knowledge of moving lights and their use in an entertainment venue and for live performance
- To understand how moving lights interact with the lighting design process and how to choose the appropriate fixtures for a lighting design
- To give a knowledge of basic fault finding and how to set up a moving light console and DMX system
Course content:
- An introduction to moving light equipment and its use
- Theory and practice of the setup of moving light equipment
- Using colour, gobos, beam control, effects and other parameters on intelligent fixtures
- Maximising moving lights efficiency with placement and choice of fixtures used
- Identifying faults and basic maintenance of fixtures
- Use of DMX 512, setting up a control system, addresses and DMX 512 distribution
- Programming cues and setting up groups and palettes on a moving light console
- Ethernet control systems and the future of control protocols such as ACN
- Patching and cabling
