Course objectives:
- To give delegates a series of practical exercises in lighting design techniques and practices.
- Through taking part in these exercises, delegates will learn how to approach lighting design for a variety of areas of performance such as music events, drama, dance productions and corporate events.
- As this course takes place in a theatre space, with an array of professional lighting equipment, it will give delegates hands on experience and knowledge of various equipment and techniques used in professional lighting design.
Who should attend this course?
- You should have a basic knowledge of lighting equipment and the basic processes involved in lighting design, although no experience in lighting productions is necessary.
- The course is also suited for people who may be self taught, or may have had basic instruction in lighting design work, and wish to develop their skills further using professional equipment in a purpose built performance space with professional instruction.
- It is also ideal for those who have attended the Introduction to Stage Lighting and Production Electrics course run by Stage Electrics and who wish to further their knowledge in lighting design through a series of practical exercises with detailed feedback.
Course Content
- Choosing the right equipment for the job and working with direction of light, colour and texture to create moods, atmospheres and concepts for a design idea.
- The use of key light and fill light in crafting a lighting state for drama.
- Creating a general cover (wash) of light to cover a performance space.
- Plotting a lighting state and balancing light levels.
- Working with cue times and plotting a series of interconnecting lighting states to give an overall style to a piece.
- Making adjustments and fine tuning a lighting design.
