Technical TrainingCourse objectives:

This course sets out to give delegates a one day series of practical exercises in theatrical lighting design technique. Through taking part in these exercises, delegates will learn how to approach lighting design for a theatrical production and how to generate creative responses to a text and or/a design concept. This course will take place in a theatre space with an array of professional lighting equipment and give delegates hands on experience.

 

Who should attend this course?

This course is ideal for those people who have attended the Introduction to Stage Lighting Course run by Stage Electrics and who wish to further their knowledge in this area through a series of practical exercises.

People attending this course should already have a basic knowledge of lighting equipment and a knowledge of the basic processes involved in theatrical lighting design. The course is also suited for people who may be self taught or may have had basic instruction in lighting design and wish to develop their skills further.

Course Content

  • Developing ideas of lighting design in response to a text and/or design concept
  • Working with direction of light and choosing the right equipment to light a production
  • Using Colour and Texture to create mood and atmosphere
  • The use of key light and fill light in crafting a lighting state
  • Creating a general cover (Wash) of light to cover an acting area
  • Plotting a lighting state and balancing light levels
  • Working with cue times and plotting a series of interconnecting lighting states to give an overall style to a piece
  • Making adjustments and fine tuning a lighting design
