Course objectives:
- Through a series of practical exercises and demonstrations, delegates will learn how to approach lighting for many areas of live performance, including theatre, live music, dance and corporate events.
- Delegates will learn how to approach lighting in a creative way and gain the knowledge and skills to deal with the technical equipment and processes involved in lighting a production or event.
Who should attend?
- This course is aimed at anyone interested in acquiring knowledge and skills in lighting design and production electrics.
- No previous experience is necessary although a basic knowledge of stage lighting or other areas of technical production work is an advantage.
- If you are self taught in lighting, or have acquired knowledge and skills from others and wish to learn in a more detailed and structured way, then this course will help you.
Course content:
The role that light plays in a live performance
- The role of the lighting designer
- The production process
- Different types of live events and performance venues
- Lantern types and equipment used in lighting design
- The toolset of a lighting designer which will include the use of colour, direction, texture and intensity of light
- Lighting plans and lighting design paperwork
- Rigging lighting equipment and focussing
- Lighting consoles and plotting lighting states
We also offer a Stage Lighting Design course which enhances the knowledge given on this training and gives more knowledge of lighting design through a series of practical exercises in a theatre space with an array of professional lighting equipment.
