Course objectives:
- To provide delegates with detailed up to date information on the principles and practices of the relevant regulations and legislation that educational drama/performing arts departments have to comply with.
- To understand the importance and basic principles of risk assessment.
- To have an awareness and to be able to demonstrate knowledge of accident reporting and prevention; dangerous occurrences; and hazardous activities specific to performing arts.
Course content:
The course will cover many of the necessary regulations and legislation as well as providing specific examples and information, including;
- The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
- Safety policy and the hierarchy of responsibility
- Group discussion - Where dangers and hazards can be found
- Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

- The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)
- Electrical hazards and safety
- The Working at Height Regulations 2005
- Types of equipment for working at height and the relevant good practice

- The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
- Manual handling hazards and safety
