Sadler's Wells

Sadler's Wells is a world leader in contemporary and classical dance with London premises that encompass the Sadler's Wells Theatre, the Lilian Baylis Studio and the Peacock Theatre.

Stage Electrics was tasked with upgrading the production and front-of-house dimming, data networks and house lighting at the main site in Rosebery Avenue in just six weeks.

Dimming
ETC Sensor ESR 36 racks with ThruPower modules were installed for the Sadler's Wells Theatre production dimming, with ETC Unison DRd dimmer racks with DMX control of all 1-10v LED lighting added for architectural dimming and control of foyer and function rooms.

The Lilian Baylis Studio received ESR 48 ETC Sensor Dimmers together with new circuits and facility panels, a completely new production data network and a Paradigm controller for the house lights and Garden Court Café.

ETC Paradigm architectural control processors, each running on their own separate network, keep foyer and function room lighting independent from venue lighting, and all is governed by an ETC Central Control Server.

Data Network
Renewal of the production data network included the bespoke modification of facility panels to accommodate dual Ethercon and opticalCON fibre connections and the installation of 150 lines of Ethernet and 40 lines of multi-mode fibre.

Houselights
Stage Electrics replaced the main auditorium lighting with the most advanced installation of GDS ARC LED solutions to date. The full range of GDS ARC fixtures was employed to provide house lights, row markers, circle front feature lighting, emergency lighting and exit signs, many of which are bespoke to the project.

Project Management
Stage Electrics brought their project management skills to bear working closely with consultants and resident staff to deliver the entire scheme in just six weeks. This was achieved by adopting a very robust approach to project management and comprehensive pre-planning before going on site.

"We selected Stage Electrics to do this work as they showed a very good understanding of the entire project," says Wallace. "Their project management has been detailed and the pre-work they carried out before the project started really made the difference between success and failure. The finished product was of a very high standard and we're very pleased with it".

Spence agrees: "We were delighted with the way that Stage Electrics responded to what was a relatively complex brief but more so, in as much as, all was achieved in a particularly tight timescale when there were many other complex projects running side by side".
